Reply:I would suggest keeping the names one syllable, both male and female.





Names like Jack Carroll or (William) Bill Carroll or James Carroll for boys.





And names like Jan(ice) Carroll or Jill Carroll. The "J" sound seems to be a good addition as well, but mainly keep the name to a single syllable.





Even if you go with a two or more syllable name, be sure it can be shortened to a single syllable nickname like Jan for Janice or Bill for William. It sounds better to me at least, too many syllables changes the meter (alteration of hard and soft stresses on syllables) and makes the name sound "off."
