What is a good name for a male bernese mountain dog puppy?

You really need to just get to know him better and go from there.





Ideally ... have the name make some sort of connection with you and your dog.





Find out what his parents' names were and play off of that. Or play off of where he was born.





For example ...





We have a Berner named Marley - her mother was named Jamaica, so we played off of that and Bob Marley.





We have a Berner named Topaz - because one of her eyes is blue.





We have a Berner named Keeneland - because he is from Kentucky, home of the big Keeneland horse sale.





We have a Berner named Panda - because she has black spots on the white on her face.





We have a Berner named Molson - because he is from Canada and my wife and I got to know each other in college while drinking Molson each night at local bar.





We have a Berner named Nicki - because the bar we drank at in college was named Nick's and she was born just outside of the town it is located in.





Any way, have fun with it and be creative. Choose a name that has meaning to you, or your dog, and go from there.

Reply:a dog has to" fit in to its name" try finding out where his parents were from or play along with where you live or a song that reminds you of him. I have a berner named Spec because she had a speck (swisskiss) on her neck and that was her id mark. I have Ellie we named her that after her dad was named Jed (beverly hillbillies theme going on !) I have spec's brother Tater ( name after ron white comedian skit on tater salad! ) and I have Hector, ellie's nephew from Brazil so we named with a latin/brazilian name.

Reply:Hi, our Berner's name is Gryphon- both of his parents had mythical names, and I spent quite awhile searching for just the right name for our beautiful big boy ( and he was really big! 28 lbs at 8 weeks!!!!)


"Gryphon" means strength and integrity, and he is every bit of that, he is now 5 years old, and the gentlest giant that you could ever meet- take time and choose a name that will show the love and respect that you feel for your beautiful Berner, and may you enjoy many wonderful years together.
