When was Ashley no longer seen as a popular male name?

Or Kelly?

I like those names. I have a son, he's being called Kelly.

When was Ashley no longer seen as a popular male name?
When Ashley Abbott ( Who I was named after) became a popular character on the young and the restless in 1982. Ashley is still used as a boys name in the UK though.
Reply:I'm not sure but I love Ashley and Kelly for a boy. I'd never call a girl those though. I think for a boy, the spelling Kelley is cuter and more manly!
Reply:Ashley's pretty popular for boys compared to Kelly.

Kelly's pretty unique though.
Reply:I think it's because the names are associated more with females than males.
Reply:Probably when Ashley Olsen showed her ugly face on television.
Reply:Ashley and Kelly were NEVER popular names for a boy.
Reply:They seem more like feminine names
Reply:I like "Kelly" for your son's name. Thank you for picking something original and not on the top 100 boys names list.
Reply:Last time I checked, they were female names. They are nice names though...
Reply:About 25 years ago.
