Can anyone tell me anything you know about the male name Fotis?

All I know is that it鈥檚 Greek. I would like to know meanings behind it. Famous people, anything really.

Can anyone tell me anything you know about the male name Fotis?
Fotis is a modern Greek variant of Photios. It derives from the Ancient Greek word "phos" meaning "light."





There is a saint of the Greek Orthodox church called St. Photios the Great. He was a Patriarch of Constantinople in the 9th century.

- a prominent biologist called Fotis Kafatos, who works in malaria research.


- a greek politician called Fotis Perlikos


- a character in The Greek Passion, by Nikos Kazantzakis
