What is the national origin of the male name "Reagan/Regan"?

I know it's European but can't place the country. Extra points if you can help me figure out about when the name originated (e.g. Middle Ages, 18th/19th century, recently, etc.) as well. :)

What is the national origin of the male name "Reagan/Regan"?
Reagan

Irish: variant spelling of Regan.

Dictionary of American Family Names, Oxford University Press.

Regan

Irish: reduced form of O鈥橰egan, an Anglicized form of Gaelic 脫 R铆ag谩in 鈥榙escendant of Riag谩n鈥? a personal name of uncertain origin, perhaps akin to r铆odhgach 鈥榠mpulsive鈥? 鈥榝urious鈥? See also Ryan.

Ryan

Irish: simplified form of Mulryan.

Irish: reduced form of O鈥橰yan, an Anglicized form of Gaelic 脫 Riagh谩in (modern Irish 脫 Riain) 鈥榙escendant of Rian鈥? 脫 Maoilriain 鈥榙escendant of Maoilriaghain鈥? or 脫 Ruaidh铆n 鈥榙escendant of the little red one鈥? Ryan is one of the commonest surnames in Ireland; there has been considerable confusion with Regan.

Americanized spelling of German Rein.

This is what ancestry.com says but as with all genealogy its better to follow the individual then a Surname. B/C names change overtime or families start using variants of that name, or start using different names all together its best to follow each generation back one at a time until you find place of origin. Hope this Helps :)
Reply:Have a look at the links posted below, they even have a "coat of arms", according to my source it's Irish.
