A unique male name that sounds good with the name Faye.?

I am trying to create a story, but I am the worst when it comes to names. So, I am trying to come up with a good uncommon name for a male captain type character. Faye is female character that this so called captain will meet and soon fall in love with. Anyway, any input would be a great help.

A unique male name that sounds good with the name Faye.?
Alasdair/Alastair %26amp; Faye (Scottish form of Alexander)

Braxton %26amp; Faye (Old English name meaning "Bracca's town")

** Felix %26amp; Faye (Used in: German, Dutch, Scandinavian, English, Romanian, Ancient Roman, and Biblical)

** Mordecai %26amp; Faye (very old name...)

Tobias %26amp; Faye (used in: Biblical, German, Scandinavian, and English)

Do you think MADISON could also be a MALE NAME?

Today one friend said that Madison is unisex not a true feminine name at all. She said that the ending -SON means "SON OF" and for this reason, although Madison is unisex, this name is more masculine to her.

Do you think MADISON COULD ALSO BE A MALE NAME?

Do you think MADISON could also be a MALE NAME?
My next door neighbors son is named Madison.
Reply:Yes, Madison is a male name, with the very masculine meaning "son of the mighty warrior." I think it is great for a boy name but would be better if it wasn't so overused for girls. In fact it has been in the top 10 on the girl side for almost a decade. In 2004 there were 104 girl Madisons for every boy Madison born. I don't think it would be truly awful to name a boy Madison but please don't underestimate name discrimination and teasing. Madison was strictly a last name until the 1980's movie splash made it popular for girls. The nickname Maddie sounds girly so that probably didn't help :)
Reply:I would never name my son Madison. If its in the top 10 for the girls, a boy would be teased relentlessly with that name. I really don't care that SON means "Son Of". I have yet to me just one Allison, Addison or Madison that is a boy. Its 2009, people need to realize we are not in the olden days with male Ashleys and Lindsays running about.
Reply:I don't know any Madison that are boys, only girls. But you Shannon is also listed as a boy name but most of the Shannon's I know are girls. There are alot of Jerks out there that tease people because of there name. My son's name is Gage %26amp; he had this kid that called him Gay Gage, my son finally had to thump his butt.
Reply:Madison is a male name, only recently has it startd being used more commonly as a female name, names ending in son, do mean son of.

Babynames.com is pretty good if r unsure wether a naem is unisex or not. at the end of the day you call call a girl john if u really wanted to, is personal choice =)
Reply:I believe it started off as a surname, then a boy's name, THEN a girl's name but I may be wrong haha. I know it is technically considered "unisex".

I prefer Madison for a girl, only because I'm so used to it. It may have been appropriate back then, but with its popularity for girls now..I'm not sure how it would work for a boy.

:o)
Reply:I don't like the name for either gender. "Son of" names were masculine, but have been pretty much dominated by girls, so a boy with the name would be mercilessly teased.

EDIT: Yes, but unfortunately "jerks" make up about 75% of the world's population.

♠ Qǖḕḛἠ
Reply:Your friend is exactly right. The meaning is Son of ------. I just forgot who its the son of.

Over the years its been used more and more for a female name.

I know a couple of guys named Madison but its used mostly for females.
Reply:I think that it will me fine but you'll need to back it up with a good (boys) name ya know like

Madison James or

Madison Lee or

Madison Chase

and well it's all up to you as to what you name your child I wish you luck!

~Shasta~
Reply:It is origianlly a mans name, but like all names, people will use it for girls. Therefore it is very popular as a girls name now a days, more so than a boys name. But of course a boy can be named Madison, same goes for Morgan.
Reply:I would never name my son Madison. The meaning doesn't really matter to me. I love Madison for a girl but not for a boy. Just because it ends in -SON doesn't mean it's a boy name. Like Alison, Addison, etc. They're girl names, not guys.
Reply:yes it can. my name happens to be maddison (but i am a girl). It meens "son of great chief warrior". it's orgin is english and it was oringinally a males name there. it was not really know till about the 90's, then it became very popular.
Reply:No.

If a guy was named Madison...

I'm pretty sure he would get teased over it.

*EDIT*

If you post a question like this...

you're going to get all kinds of responses / opinions.

I gave you my opinion because you asked for it.
Reply:your friend is right. it is a unisex name and started as a boy's name, but is now more popular for girls. i do like it as a girl's name though, even though it could be a boy's name.
Reply:my name is madison and i'm a girl...i only know female madisons %26amp; i dont think its a boys name at all, not even with the deffinition.

mason would be a better boy name.
Reply:No I do not think in any way that Madison is a boy name:( Sorry, there are lots of unisex names out there... But I don't like unisex names I like for children to be completely boys, or completely girls:)
Reply:Yeah Madison is deff. a guys name too.

like Mason, it can be both guy and girl even though its more masculine...it could lean both ways...

Maddison would usually be a girl

Madison would be a boy
Reply:no i dont think madison is a male name at all,

even though it ends in -son that usually refers to last names like johnson or jackson, not first names.
Reply:Yes, I think it suits a boy more than a girl...it doesn't sound very feminine to me...same with Addison. Madelyn is more appropriate for a girl.
Reply:Yes it can be used as a boys name but it is more popular for girls. Like Jaiden. It is also unisex but mostly used for boys.
Reply:if was originally a male name like the names Ashley and Stacy but that seems kind of odd naming a male Madison in 2009.
Reply:it makes sense what she is saying, i think it could be, but in my opinion it sounds feminine more than masculine.
Reply:Absolutely!
Reply:No I think it is a girly name...I love it for a girl not for a boy!
Reply:i wouldnt think so but we all have personal preferences. but maybe madden or maddon that is kinda a boyish version to me
Reply:yes , this is male .
Reply:YES.
Reply:its 2 girly no offense
Reply:meh
Reply:Madison is suppose to be a boys name. but i like it more as a girls

What is a nice male baby name that is also a type of bird?

We have named our sons after birds as we want them to soar high to whatever they decide to do in the future. My eldest son's name is Robin while my second son's name is Jay. I'm looking for another name that is also a type of bird for my third son due end of March...we were thinking of Cardinal but we are not totally convinced yet. What do you suggest?

Purple Martin

Male Purple Martin

Conservation status

Least Concern (IUCN 3.1)[1]

Scientific classification

Kingdom: Animalia

Phylum: Chordata

Class: Aves

Order: Passeriformes

Family: Hirundinidae

Genus: Progne

Species: P. subis

Binomial name

Progne subis

(Linnaeus, 1766)

The Purple Martin (Progne subis) is the largest North American swallow at 20 cm length. Adults have a slightly forked tail. These "aerial acrobats" have speed and agility in flight, and when approaching their housing, will dive from the sky with their wings tucked at great speeds.

This species was first described by Linnaeus in his Systema naturae in 1758 as Hirundo subis.[2]

[edit] Description

Proper identification of Purple Martins is determined by their age. It takes two years for this species to reach their full adult breeding plumage. This makes identification complicated. There are some common acronyms used in identifying the age and sex of Purple Martins. "HY" means "hatching year", "SY" means "second year" and "ASY" means "after second year".

ASY (adult birds)

Adult males are entirely black with glossy steel blue sheen, and adult females are dark on top with some steel blue sheen, and lighter underparts.

SY (subadult birds)

Females look similar to "ASY" females minus the steel blue sheen on the back. Males look very much like females at this age, but they will have solid black feathers starting to emerge on their chest in a blotchy, random pattern as they moult to their adult plumage.

West Coast Purple Martins on a nest box near Fern Ridge Reservoir, OregonThe eastern nominate subspecies P. s. subis nests exclusively in man-made bird houses, of which about a million are provided. It is the only bird totally dependent on humans for nest sites.[citation needed] It is important to note that unmonitored Purple Martin houses often become breeding colonies for House Sparrows and Common Starlings — invasive species responsible for declining Martin populations across North America. Both of these aggressive non-native species were introduced from Europe and often kill Martins for their nest cavity[citation needed]. If House Sparrows and/or Starlings are not actively controlled and removed from the housing site, the Martins will lose their eggs and young causing the martins to abandon the site. Because of the devastating effects on Purple Martins, many landlords trap the invasive species to ensure the survival of their colony of martins.

The paler subspecies P. s. hesperia of Arizona and western Mexico uses only woodpecker holes in Saguaro and other large cacti, and the large pale west coast form P. s. arboricola utilises woodpecker and other natural cavities as well as nesting boxes and gourds.

The call is described as: "Throaty and rich tchew-wew, etc., or pew pew. Song gurgling, ending in a succession of low rich gutturals".[3] Purple Martins also have a "dawnsong". Tapes of this song are sold to attract martins to newly established birdhouses.

[edit] Distribution and ecology

Their breeding habitat is open areas across eastern North America, and also some locations on the west coast from British Columbia to Mexico. [4]. This species typically breeds in colonies located in close proximity to human housing.

The Purple Martin migrates to the Amazon basin in winter. Its winter range extends into Ecuador[5] but does not seem to ascend far up the Andean foothills.

The first record of this species in Europe was a single bird on Lewis, Scotland on 5-6 September 2004, and the second was on the Azores on 6 September 2004.

Purple Martins are aerial insectivores, meaning that they catch insects from the air. The birds are agile hunters and eat a variety of winged insects. Rarely, on occasion, they will come to the ground to eat insects. They usually fly relatively high, so, contrary to popular opinion, mosquitos do not form a large part of their diet.

Of course, if you have a girl you could use Lark, Wren, Teal or Dove (all keep well with your theme of birds - Raven doesn't fit quite as well...)

How should you name male characters?

This particular male is cold, heartless, and revengeful. He's the Alpha Male in the group. Completely dominant, but everyone in the group has a strong male-dominant personality.

I want to call him Dynomite (pronounced Dee-Nom-Me-Tay), but does that sound too feminine? His nickname would be Dyno/Dino.

Thanks so much :)

How should you name male characters?
Even if you tell people it is pronounced differently .... I would personally still read it as the explosive.

I like the nickname Dyno--that is also a car term-I think when you have your car Dyno tested (i don't know if it is spelled like that or not) you see how much horse power it is putting out.

good luck.
Reply:I think people who read the name Dynomite would be confused and think it had the meaning of the actual bomb. Just my opinion, but before I read the pronunciation of it I thought it was like dynamite, the bomb.

I would think yes any name that had a meaning to it that was like hunting, war, spears, etc. would work.

Here are some I pulled up from a couple name websites:

-Fletcher (maker of weapons)

-Wyatt (war)

-Ryder (warrior)

-Lance (spear)

But in the end, your characters are your characters and you can have them named whatever you please. =)

Hope this helps.

Reply:Well, the name Martin means "cold." I like the name Max because it sounds tough, and kind of uncaring. The name Rocky means "tough."

The name you have is kind of feminine, and also hard to pronunciate, and it reminds me of an old bar singer... That's just me. If you do choose your own name, call him Dyno. Sounds tougher.
Reply:I think you should look at name websites so you can find a better varitey of names and then just chose one that sounds like your character.

My ideas for you character's name and sorry if they aren't good.

Evan, Donavan, Connor, Jaden, Caden, Aaron, or Tristan.

Reply:unless youre writing a fantasy story, that would be kind of dumb.

plus people reading it would just call him dynomite like the explosive unless you explained somewhere how its pronounced. for example hermione in harry potter.
Reply:A classic male name that means "spear" is roger. I suggest you check out a baby name book. Each name is also followed up with a etymology. It would be a chance to add some symbolism into your work.

Cheers
Reply:What about Lexadar?
Reply:I would name him after someone that is like that.

it would make the writing easier to me. Id'no why.

Who names hurricane one time male name and female name for the next one?
It was set up that way a few decades ago. They have lists that they rotate each year. It's always set in advance what that year's names will be. If a storm is really bad, that name is retired from the list and not used again.

Could these be used as GIRL names or do they sound to much like a male name?

For a FEMALE BOXER my hubby has thought of:

Deuce

Diesel

Payne

Felon

What do you think? Could any work for a female Boxer puppy?

Could these be used as GIRL names or do they sound to much like a male name?
I like Payne, the others sound more like male names.
Reply:My boyfriends buddies mastiff is named Deuce but he's a boy. I think the names "payne" and "felon" sound like fighting dog names and if thats what you two plan on doing with your dog you're sick. How about a normal name for your dog that doesn't have negative stigmas attached to it as that will only further alienate your dog from people who believe certian breeds to be "dangerous". I suggest Queen. Still kind of powerful, but without being negative.
Reply:Omg! I love the name Deuce! It is a bit masculine, though. But it would still work. I like Diesel the best for your female boxer. Diesel for your female, and if you ever get a male, you could name Him Deuce!

So any of those names work very well, I think.

Deuce 鈾?Diesel

I think it's Adorable!
Reply:They all seems to be pretty masculine names to me. I own rotties so I understand still wanting a strong sounding name but there are plenty of strong feminine names.

What about a name like Karma or Dutchess??

Here is a great site that might help :)

http://www.dog-names-and-more.com/Boxer-...

Good luck and congrats on your pup!
Reply:I love the names Felon and Payne, but the rest are a bit maley. But it is a dog so the name doesn't have to be perfect.
Reply:Well felon means cruel, or evil. Duece mens the face of a die that has two spots.Idk about Payne and diesel.
Reply:Payne would be the only one I would see as a female name. The others are way too much masculine.
Reply:i think those all sound boyish sorryy try websites for puppy names. they have many to choose from

Reply:Good names but they are boys names.but payne is ok.
Reply:I think these names sound masculine - how about Lady Champ?
Reply:I LOVE Diesel :)
Reply:I don't think the dog is going to care either way.

Reply:Maybe Payton.

When Ashley Abbott ( Who I was named after) became a popular character on the young and the restless in 1982. Ashley is still used as a boys name in the UK though.

Is the name Jesus a male name, a female name, or a name of Latino descent lacking an apostrophe'?

Just a question to allow some insight into the world I dwell in..(Yours as well) I ask because for me to hear the name...brings peace into my heart. For me to see it used as a monicker,sp%26lt;%26gt; or an avatar brings concerns into my heart. Sometimes ones perception of something they are subjected to is accurate and causes them to feel as if they need to speak on that matter. I have spoken.

Is the name Jesus a male name, a female name, or a name of Latino descent lacking an apostrophe'?
JESUS name means%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;Savior.
Reply:Actually, the origin of the name is Greek. It was their equivalent of his name in Hebrew, Jeshua (Yay-shoo-ah) and found its way into use through the Romans, who even though latin was their main language, considered Greek to be the language of the truly educated, thus the Greek rendition of his name. As an aside the same is tru for the names of the Egyptians deiteis that most of us are familiar with...most are actually the Greek equivalents of their names...
Reply:Jesus is a very common name in Spanish-speaking countries.

The English equivalent is Jesse.
Reply:The name "Jesus" is a westernized version of the Hebrew name "Yeshua;" for which there are numerous variants (one of which is "Joshua." Just as in English we say "Issac" for the Hebrew "Yitzhack." The name "Jesus" (Yeshua/Joshua) was very common, and was most definitely a male name.

The name Jesus was adopted by the Spanish speaking community only after it came into widespread usage. The name Jesus predates the Spanish Language.

This is what ancestry.com says but as with all genealogy its better to follow the individual then a Surname. B/C names change overtime or families start using variants of that name, or start using different names all together its best to follow each generation back one at a time until you find place of origin. Hope this Helps :)

This is what ancestry.com says but as with all genealogy its better to follow the individual then a Surname. B/C names change overtime or families start using variants of that name, or start using different names all together its best to follow each generation back one at a time until you find place of origin. Hope this Helps :)

Do you think the name CAMERON sounds more like a MALE NAME?

In my opinion, I think Cameron is more masculine sounding. What's your OPINION? Do you think is BETTER FOR A MALE?

Do you think the name CAMERON sounds more like a MALE NAME?
Yeah, I think it's more boyish but that probably has to do with how I only know boy Cameron's. I'm just used to it on boys.
Reply:Well Cameron is a name for both but it works more for a man. I think it is better for a male, because it does sound more masuline. And if a girl had that name, they would have to use a nickname for her cause that sound funny to call a girl Cameron.

In my opinion Cameron is better off suited for a man than a girl. So if your baby is a girl, let's hope you have another name in store for it. :)

*~That's what I think~!
Reply:I've actually met both male and female cameron's so it's really hard to say at this point. I think cameron diaz comes to mind first, so maybe I'm slightly more for it being female? But I don't know. I imagine it depends on the age group. You should poll younger children, 5-7 range. All of us have probably met camerons and have been spoiled for your questions :P
Reply:Cameron is a lot more common for males, but I also know many females with that name as well. It can work either way! It's a great name.
Reply:Absolutely it is masculine. You are right to think so. It is horrible for a girl.
Reply:I like it better for a boy but also think its equally appropriate for both sexes.
Reply:I think of a guy when Cameron comes up. then again the first Cameron I knew was a guy. haha
Reply:I think its better for a boy...but then again I have a little cousin thats named Cameron, so I always think of him when I hear that name!
Reply:I know a little Cameron and her nick name is Cammie but that name can def go either way and be cute for both genders.
Reply:Yes. The only person I ever knew named cameron was a male.
Reply:I know both sexes use it but I always thought it more masculine.
Reply:Yes i do think its more of a boy name.
Reply:yes it is a male name
Reply:NO MAYBE
Reply:yes.
Reply:I think it's better for a boy.
Reply:i think it is cool for both
Reply:ya
Reply:I think it's better for a male.
Reply:Maybe that I know as many females as males, but I think Cameron could go either way

Cameron is the only way I would name for a boy

I like Camryn or Kamryn for a girl. Most girls I know have a spelling like this, some are named Cameron
Reply:My wife is named Kammrin and is an extremely feminine looking women, nothing masculine about her, lol.

It's just personal taste.
Reply:Well I think of Cameron Diaz when I hear it. But I like it for both.
Reply:i think its ok on either but when i hear cameron i usally think its a
Reply:Kamryn is a girls name i love the name for a girl not so much for a boy
Reply:No I think it's a cuter name for a girl.

What is the meaning and origin of the male name Ardell Burdett?

It's my grandfather's birth name in Texas. He went by "Cotton"

What is the meaning and origin of the male name Ardell Burdett?
Ardell is going to have the same meaning as it did in the prior days when the question was posed. This is whether it is the first name or the surname or if it will end up to be a middle name in the near future.

As follows:

ARDELL

Swedish: from an unexplained first element + the common suffix of surnames -ell (from Latin -elius).

-AND-

BURDETT

French and English (of Norman origin): from a pet form of the Old French personal name Burdo (see Burdon).

....

Burdon

English: variant spelling of Burden.

Polish: nickname for a troublemaker (see Burda).

....

Burden

1. (of Norman origin) from the Old French personal name Burdo (oblique case Burdon), probably of Germanic origin, but uncertain meaning.

2. nickname for a pilgrim or one who carried a pilgrim鈥檚 staff, Middle English, Old French bourdon.

3. habitational name from any of various places called Burdon or Burden. Burden in West Yorkshire and Great Burdon in County Durham are named with Old English burh 鈥榮tronghold鈥? 鈥榝ortified place鈥?+ dun 鈥榟ill鈥? Burdon in Tyne and Wear is named with Old English b炉re 鈥榖yre鈥?+ denu 鈥榲alley鈥?

%26amp;

......

Burda

1. Czech, Slovak, and Ukrainian: nickname for a large, loutish fellow, from the vocabulary word burda.

2. Polish and Jewish (eastern Ashkenazic): nickname for a troublemaker, from Old Polish burda 鈥榙isturbance鈥? 鈥榖rawl鈥?(originally meaning 鈥榖urden鈥? 鈥榣oad鈥?.

Best of luck in your research!
Reply:Ardell was originally a girl's name, spelled Ardelle.

The Latin translation means attentive.

According to Baby Names World, Burdett means bashful.

Do any of you know any female authors who wrote their books under a male name?

Because they thought they had to in order to get their books published?

What are some that you can think of? And how popular were their books?

Do any of you know any female authors who wrote their books under a male name?
I know that J.K. Rowling published her books without her first name because she didn't want people to discriminate based on her gender. You know how popular the Harry Potter books are!
Reply:J. K. Rowling and S.E. Hinton "hid" their names.
Reply:"George Eliot" is the most famous.
Reply:Charlotte Bronte wrote under the male name of Curer Bell. She ended up writing Jane Eyre using her real name anyway, so she had success as a female.
Reply:Like others have said, J.K. Rowling. Though there's something about that I want to make clear. Maybe I heard a different version of the story than others, though I could be wrong. Anyway, I always heard that it was the publishing company that made that decision not J.K. herself...and it wasn't because they thought it would ward off male readers, it's because they KNEW it would ward off male readers. (It's a real shame that little boys are already so sexist--isn't it odd that little girls aren't?).

I know another contemporary author that had to do this. K.A. Applegate, author of the popular Animorphs series (well...popular 10 years ago, anyway). I didn't find out she was female until a good ways in to the series. I (as well as most of her other readers, I guess) assumed she was male. I guess that's the way it works...use initials to make young boys think the author is male, and then when they finally find out she's female, they're already interested in the series so they don't care anymore.
Reply:Why stop at authors? I know of a female mathematician who once had to submit an paper on formulas under a male name otherwise the lecturer refused to mark it. The lecturer was so impressed with the paper he had to meet the author, and doubly suprised when he was a she.

I'll find the name for you.
Reply:S.E. Hinton only wanted to publish her initials due to the fact she's a woman.
Reply:Gert Brantenberg, a genetic woman who wrote her book "Egalia麓s Daughters" under this male name !

(The book describes a world where women are ruling the society and men are submitting, but sometimes rebelling)
Reply:the Brontes published their novesl under male names at first, as did Geroge eliot. I do not really know why they did this, asplenty of women before their time had published novels under their own names.

J.K. Rowling was advised to use her initials rather than her own name because apparently boys sometimes don't want to read books by women authors because they think they will be girly. however, as someone pointed out, her books quickly became so popular that she could have called herself Fifi Trixibelle and it wouldn't have made any difference to her sales.
Reply:"Out of Africa" was written in 1937 by Baroness Karen von Blixen-Finecke, who used the pseudonym Isak Dinesen.

Ellis Peters, author of the popular Brother Cadfael novels, is the pseudonym of Edith Pargeter.

James Tiptree, Jr. was a prolific author of classic science fiction. It was a pseudonym used by Alice Bradley Sheldon.

Alice Mary Norton, another prolific author of classic science fiction and fantasy, used the pseudonym Andre Norton.
Reply:Henry Handel Richardson.
Reply:To start with - because she is the most prolific author today Nora Roberts- She had a male detective character and her publisher said a female author would never sell a male character. Her pseudonym = J.D. Robb.

She is reissuing these books now.
Reply:All of the Bronte's (Charlotte, Emily, and Anne).

George Eliot (Marian Evans).

George Sand

Louisa May Alcott
Reply:J.K. Rowling, actually. Because she thought her female first name (Joanne) would ward off potential male readers. She actually doesn't have a middle name, she borrowed the K, from Kathleen, from her paternal grandmother. The name Kathleen has never been part of her real name.

Actually I knew she was female author and read it anyway, though, I thought it was rather obvious, given the writing. I can usually discern male and female authors with ease.

A more historical one would be The Modern Prometheus, or as most know it today, Frankenstein. It was published anonymously by Mary Shelley, who is now one of the most famous female authors. She also used a few male names to publish some of her works, but none that I can really remember.

As for Rowling, it's more of a marketing thing really. Young boys generally are not socially encouraged to read books, much less books written by women, so it was a wise move for business.
Reply:The "Brother Cadfael" Murder Mystery series of books (about 22 of them) by " Ellis Peters" [Edith Pargeter]. There have been several of her works turned into either movies or television series(starring Derick Jacoby). I strongly advise you to rad her stores.
Reply:All of the Bronte sisters did. Charlotte became "Currer Bell," Emily became "Ellis Bell," and Anne became "Acton Bell." Also, George Sand is just a male pseudonym for a female French writer.
Reply:I can't add any more names to the list, although I'm sure there are many, but I can tell you that when I worked in a bookstore (in the 2000s), I encountered a few male customers who refused to read any novels written by women. Even when I pointed out that some "male" authors are actually pseudonyms for women, I could not change these guys' opinions, or get them to try reading a female author. Sexism is still out there!
